Dear First Grader and Families,
I hope you are having a wonderful summer! School will be starting in just a few weeks and I'm very excited to get to know you and your classmates. I have been busy planning lots of fun activities for the beginning of the year, with Mrs. Hackett and Ms. Purvee. We will begin the year building “Our Caring Classroom,” by working on ways to create a safe, respectful community, both in our classroom and our school.
School starts on Wednesday, August 26th. Please remember school starts at 7:50 and students are invited into the building starting at 7:30. Remember to bring a healthy snack and lunch with you, or plan to purchase one or both from our school cafeteria. Your backpack and lunchbox should have your name on them. I have included a list of back to school supplies. Some of the items will stay in your desk, while others are combined for classroom use. Please let me know if there is anything on the list you are unable to find or purchase. I will have extras of everything.
In order for our first day to run smoothly, please bring a note about where you are going after school and how you are getting there.
I would love to hear about what you have been up to over the summer! Draw a picture or bring in an artifact (a shell, photos, a ticket stub from a park or museum, etc.) to share with your classmates during the first few days of school. Everyone will get a chance to share a summer memory during the first few days together!
I look forward to seeing you in a few short weeks, but until then, enjoy the rest of your summer!
Your First Grade Teacher,
P.S.- One of our first science units will focus on life cycles. The organism that we will be studying lives in Vermont, but only at certain times of the year. Can you guess what it is?
