I am so thankful each and every day for the time I get to spend with these scholars. Today during math menu, the scholars were able to choose if they wanted to play a game with a partner or independently. They all made appropriate choices for how their energy was feeling. Some of us are very excited for vacation next week while others are a little nervous about having different plans next week. I hope you all have a relaxing, restful and fun vacation week. I will see you all back at school on November 30th!

Today, my first-graders had a mid-unit celebration with Ms. Darling's class. The second-graders helped the first-graders pick a "how-to" book to edit and the first-graders helped the second-graders pick a "hook" to use for their writing pieces. When our work was done, we had a treat of s'mores. A big "thank-you" to Ms. Darling's class. We all hope to another event soon!

Today, we had our first real math menu day. The students each have a schedule of activities that can be completed over the next two weeks. Activities range from partner games, computer games, working with the teacher and independent practice on already learned skills. First graders did an amazing job, making good choices in what work they wanted to do and they were all so engaged in their activities.
Earlier in the day, during our regular morning math, we practiced making different combinations to make the same total. Scholars worked with a partner or two and everyone took turns finding different combinations AND writing these combinations down on their recording sheets. We will continue with similar practice tomorrow.

Today, Mrs. Touchette visited our classroom and taught us about our brains. She is teaching us ways to use what we know about our brains to help us to brain in during school. Thanks, Mrs. T. We always enjoy when you come in and share your lessons with us.
We learned that the front part of our brain is called the prefrontal cortex ( the brain's wise leader. It helps the brain make good decisions). The hippocampus is located in the middle toward the of our brain (this is where memories are saved). The amygdala is located in the back of the brain (is the brain's security guard).
